Amari was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Painting and Drawing at Arizona State University. Her art has mostly consisted of her interests such as shows, movies and games or themes relating to Navajo culture. She creates works in a usually semi realistic or anime style. Amari’s main medium for making art is currently digital art, however, she also has experience with colored pencils and watercolor/gouache. She has used different materials and tries different themes in her art.
Amari is a primarily digital artist but also works with other mediums occasionally. Her interests and culture are her biggest inspirations and motivators that drive her to create art. Representation is vital for creating an understanding of different lives and creating community. In my art Amari strives to represent herself, culture and interests – As an Indigenous woman, she is excruciatingly under represented in the world. Her work discusses Navajo culture and commonly includes feminine subjects as a way to give those like her a sense of belonging and to those unlike her to see a new perspective. She aims to create stories through narrative artwork that can be enjoyed by many. She uses creation as a way to explore themes and tell stories of Identity, interests and representation of culture.
