3rd Annual Native American Writers Room

The 3rd Annual Native American Writers Room continued in 2021! Showrunner fellow Doane Tulugaq Avery continued the development of the drama series from the previous Writers Room. Working with Executive Producer and Showrunner Program mentor Jennifer Court, Doane brought the project to the next level with a groundbreaking pilot and subsequent drafts that enveloped the world, characters and tone of this groundbreaking dramatic series. In addition, story elements were further developed to capture the essence of the people and tribal politics of the era.

“We are excited to continue our work with Doane on this incredible drama that explores our people’s health and struggles to build strong communities.” Announced Patricia Gomes, Barcid Foundation Executive Director. “Doane’s vision for the series has taken the characters to new depths and we look forward to seeing the series come to fruition.”

The Writers Room functions as an incubator and development space for Native American and indigenous writers to create new and groundbreaking scripted material for film and TV. This initiative provides valuable writers room experience, culturally relevant artistic development and professional material that bolsters each writers’ career portfolio.
