7th ANNUAL NATIVE AMERICAN TV WRITERS LAB ANNOUNCES TWELVE SELECTED FELLOWS

The Native American Media Alliance, in partnership with Netflix, Amazon Studios, Kung Fu Monkey Productions, Cherokee Nation Film Office and Snowpants Productions, is excited to announce the twelve selections for the 7th Annual Native American TV Writers Lab fellows. “We are proud of the dozens of fellows who have come through the lab and launched incredible careers now represented on every network and streaming service.” Announced Cara Jade Myers, director of outreach and actress in the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon. “This year’s lab will host twelve talented Native writers who will lead the way for the next generation.”

Founded in 2016, the Native American TV Writers Lab is an intensive TV scriptwriters workshop that has provided dozens of writers for current and developing television series. Selected fellows take part in an eight-week curriculum curated by seasoned writing professionals. The lab consist of daily workshops, seminars and one-on-one mentoring to help each writer develop and complete a pilot in eight weeks and hone skills to prepare the writers to move into staff writing positions. This year’s lab is instructed by writer Cari Daly.

The NATIVE AMERICAN TV WRITERS LAB was created to expand the amount of Native Americans working behind the camera, as a way to increase fair and accurate portrayals of Native Americans on television. According to every industry report from the WGA West, Nielsen and others, the Native American and indigenous population represent a dismal number within the industry.

The NATIVE AMERICAN TV WRITERS LAB was created to expand the amount of Native Americans working behind the camera, as a way to increase fair and accurate portrayals of Native Americans on television.
